There are plenty of surveys on this topic and there are new ones every day. Google them!
I have selected a few to share so you can see what is going on in the ever-changing ?world at work?.
A survey by CNBC.com revealed a list of the top 10 growth jobs in the United States as:
Top 10 fastest growing jobs in the US:

According to Quora.com, if you are living in a developed country, chances are the best jobs would be in healthcare and aged care due to the problem of an aging population and of course technology-related jobs.
Neither should be surprising and both have become even clearer frontrunners in these covid times.
Such healthcare jobs would include:
IT related jobs due to the 4th and 5th industrial revolution:
An article in the Economist plotted this graph showing the risk of automation by job category across the OECD:

In 2018, the World Economic Forum laid down its forecast for the future of the jobs landscape in 2022 as follows:

Well, 2022 is right around the corner and after this report was issued, covid-19 happened, so it?s fair to say things might have changed but have they really?
Or has covid-19 merely accelerated and amplified the changes that were going to happen anyway?
I would say the latter.
Jobs most at risk of automation
According to an article in the UK?s Daily Telegraph, out of around 700 occupations, 12 were found to have a 99 per cent chance of being automated in the future:
The article observed that all these occupations share a predictable pattern of repetitive activities, the likes of which are possible to replicate through Machine Learning algorithms.
So if you are in one of these, should you be re-thinking your career plans?
I would say it?s wise to assume you should.
LinkedIn weighed in with its own predictions of the most popular future skills as follows:
Skills rising in popularity

And there are many other articles by different research firms and commentators on this dramatically changing job landscape.
So, what can we learn from all this?
Well, one thing is that we can no longer stand by as a spectator and merely watch what happens.
That was never a great idea but increasingly invites extra risk in today?s (and tomorrow?s) unpredictable environment.
We ought to be getting proactive and managing the risk by positioning ourselves on an upward curve rather than a downward one.
We can't direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.
P. Martin Peters
We are living in changing times.
No doubt about it.
Some of this is within our control, some of it is not.
You need to be ready to accept and in fact anticipate these changes.
I always recommend to my clients to be proactive in their career management.
I normally try to avoid stating the obvious, but on this occasion, it needs to be said:
No-one has as much at stake as YOU when it comes to managing your own career.
Not your employer, not your spouse, not your boss, not your neighbour.
You are the judge, jury, and hangman of your own destiny.
Your success depends on what you do yourself, with your own means. Don't depend on your friends, and never forget that every man is the sole craftsman of his fortune.
P. T. Barnum
If you are sitting back thinking that someone else will wave magic wands for your career, you are already likely to be on the road to bitter disappointment.
This is YOUR career.
Get yourself prepared for whatever twists and turns it will take.
Of course, there?s much more to these themes than I can include in this article but stay tuned for future blogposts here.
